How many 5-star reviews to improve your Google rating?
Enter your current rating, number of reviews and target rating: the calculation accounts for the rounding Google displays.
Result
You need 37 more 5-star reviews to show 4.5 on Google.
With this many reviews, a single 1-star review would not change your displayed rating (4.2): your review volume protects you.
Based on your displayed rating (rounded to one decimal): the result may vary by one review.
How Google calculates your rating
Your Google rating is the average of all the stars you received, displayed rounded to one decimal. A 4.45 therefore shows as 4.5: that is why a few reviews are sometimes enough to reach the next level.
The more reviews you have, the less each new one weighs on the average. With 20 reviews, a 1-star review can cost two tenths; with 300 reviews, barely one.
Why aim for 4.5 and above
Many customers filter restaurants on Google Maps from 4 or 4.5 stars. Below that, you drop out of part of the searches, even if your food is excellent.
The best way to improve for good: get more reviews from your regular customers, steadily, instead of waiting for only unhappy customers to speak up.
Frequently asked questions
Can a negative review be removed?
Only if it breaks Google's rules (insults, fake review, conflict of interest): you can then report it from your Business Profile. A review that is merely harsh stays online; it is better to reply calmly and seriously.
Is the calculation exact?
It is exact for the displayed rating you enter. Since Google rounds to one decimal, your real average may differ slightly, hence a margin of about one review.
How many reviews make a rating trustworthy?
Customers trust a rating backed by dozens of recent reviews more. Beyond 100 reviews, your rating also becomes much more stable against an isolated negative review.
How do I get more reviews without breaking Google's rules?
Ask all your customers to share their experience, at the right time, with easy access (direct link or QR code). Never make a gift or discount conditional on leaving a review.
